Terang Bulan Sabar Menanti
One of the dishes that I crave for the most would be none other than the Terang Bulan. A dish that literally translates to ‘bright moon’ which makes sense as it is of a moon-like shape and that it is usually sold after 6PM. Terang Bulan is heaven. Imagine thick crepes with a mixture of melted butter and chocolate which melts in your mouth. After you eat it, you would feel like hell. Cause’ its damn fattening.
Terang Bulan is basically Indonesians turning a traditional Middle-Eastern Mutabbaq/Martabak into a sweet dish . Martabak usually consists of beef or eggs, but Terang Bulan uses sweeter layers such as chocolate, cheese or peanut sauce. It would cost around RP16.000 which is less than AU$2.

I would recommend you to order Terang Bulan Coklat sama keju (chocolate with cheese), that is tebal (thick). Its more juicy, fattening and rich in flavour. The tipis (thin) terang bulan is a crispy version and ’feels’ less fattening. Quick fact, the name of the shop ‘Sabar Menanti’ translates to ‘wait patiently’ as it would take quite a while to make one, especially when there’s alot of customers.
The moon shaped piece of heaven are cut into pieces, for the sake of convenience and common sense.
Would you take a look at that? Tell me you are not salivating. Imagine it crispy on the crusts and on the outer layer. Whilst soft and creamy on the inside. Each bite with butter drooping down and chocolate stimulating the senses.
